Gilad Shalit biography 

Gilad Shalit (born August 28, 1986) is an Israeli and a French citizen and an IDF soldier who was captured  from Israel, 25 June 2006 by Hamas militants in a cross-border raid. Shalit was abducted near the Kerem Shalom (Israel), and was taken hostage  in an unknown location in Gaza by Hamas until October 11, 2011.
Hamas has rejected the request of the International Committee of the Red Cross to allow the ICRC to visit Shalit, stating that this visit may reveal that Shalit is held prisoner. Several human rights organizations reported that the terms and conditions of detention of Gilad Shalit are contrary to international humanitarian law. To date, the only contact between Shalit and the outside world since his capture was three letters, audio tapes and a DVD that Israel received in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners 20 women .



Shalit is owned by two French citizens and Israeli , to encourage France and the European Union is engaged in efforts to free him from his captors.
In exchange for his release, Hamas demands the release of 1,000 prisoners - the Palestinians who are imprisoned in Israel - as well as all Palestinian women and minors convicted and sentences to serve. A sticking point in negotiations between the parties for the release of Shalit Hamas's insistence on the release of Marwan Barghouti, currently serving five life sentences in Israel for murder. The mission of the UN investigation on the conflict in Gaza, which published a report in September 2009, also called Gilad Shalit to be released.  In its May 27, 2011 Declaration of Deauville, the G8 has demanded the release of Gilad Shalit.

The capture of Shalit is often called the abduction  because the soldier has received a human rights because of a captured soldier under the Conventions Geneva , which allows them to receive visits from the Red Cross and to communicate with family members, and a ransom, but it is not monetary in nature, was called for his return.
Red Cross Director General Yves Daccord also said: "The Shalit family are entitled under international humanitarian law to be in contact with his son".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would cancel the benefits and privileges - such as university education - by Palestinians in Israeli prisons, in response to Hamas 'refusal' to allow the International Red Cross visit to Shalit. It 'was the first Israeli soldier captured by Palestinians since Nachshon Wachsman in 1994. Shalit was born August 28, 1986 in Nahariya, Israel, Noam and Aviva Shalit, an older brother and a younger sister, and was raised from the age of two years in Mitzpe Hila, Western Galilee. He graduated with honors in Kabri Manor High School. Shalit began military service in the Israel Defense Forces in July 2005, and "despite a low medical profile, he preferred to serve in a combat unit, after his elder brother Yoel into the armored corps.
