Listeria
Listeria is a bacterial genus containing six species. Named after the English pioneer of surgery sterile, Joseph Lister, the family got its present name in 1940. Listeria species are Gram-positive and are typical of L. monocytogenes, the cause of listeriosis.
Listeria ivanovii is a pathogen of ruminants, and can infect laboratory mice, but rarely causes disease in humans.
